Choosing a career path is an important decision, and my experiences in Canada have helped me better understand what I want to achieve in the future. Through my education, work experience, and personal growth, I have developed a strong interest in working in the public sector. My goal is to build a meaningful career where I can contribute to my community while continuing to learn and grow professionally.
Before coming to Canada, I worked in finance and accounting for many years. This experience helped me develop skills in financial management, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving. When I arrived in Canada in 2018, I knew that I wanted to continue building on my experience while adapting to a new environment and learning new skills.
My educational journey at Seneca Polytechnic has played a major role in shaping my career goals. After completing ESL and General Academic Purposes studies, I enrolled in the Public Administration program. Through this program, I learned about municipal government, public policy, finance, ethics, and public sector management. These courses introduced me to the important role that local governments play in serving communities and providing essential services.
My internship with the Town of Newmarket’s Finance Department was one of my most valuable experiences. This opportunity allowed me to see how municipal governments operate and how finance departments support public services. I gained practical experience while working with professionals and learned how financial processes contribute to the success of municipal operations. This experience strengthened my interest in pursuing a career in local government.
Today, I am continuing my education in the Public Relations–Corporate Communications program at Seneca Polytechnic. This program has expanded my knowledge of communication, media relations, digital communications, and strategic planning. I believe these skills are valuable in the public sector because government organizations must communicate clearly and effectively with residents, employees, and stakeholders. Strong communication helps build trust, transparency, and positive relationships within communities.
In the future, I hope to work in municipal government, public administration, communications, or finance-related roles. I would like to combine my background in accounting and finance with the communication skills I am developing through my public relations studies. My goal is to contribute to organizations that serve the public and make a positive impact on people’s lives.

I understand that achieving career goals requires continuous learning and professional development. As the workplace continues to evolve, it is important to stay adaptable and open to new opportunities. I plan to continue developing my skills, gaining experience, and building professional relationships that will help me grow throughout my career.

Looking back on my journey, I am proud of how far I have come. From learning English and adapting to a new country to completing college programs and gaining practical work experience, every step has helped prepare me for the future. My experiences have taught me that hard work, determination, and lifelong learning are essential for success.
The public sector offers an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives, and that is what motivates me most. I look forward to continuing my journey and contributing to organizations that support communities and improve public services.
