My Journey To Canada

In 2018, I arrived in Canada with my family to start a new chapter in our lives. Moving to a new country was exciting, but it was also challenging. One of my most significant challenges was that I did not speak English when I arrived. Everything was new to me, including the language, culture, and education system. Although I felt nervous at first, I was determined to learn and build a better future.

My first step was taking ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Learning English was not easy, but it was critical for my success in Canada. Every day I practiced speaking, reading, and writing. Over time, I became more confident and comfortable communicating with others. These classes helped me prepare for college and everyday life in Canada.

After completing ESL studies, I enrolled at Seneca Polytechnic. I first studied General Academic Purposes, which helped me strengthen my academic skills and prepare for further education. Later, I completed the Public Administration program, where I learned about local government, public policy, municipal finance, and public sector management. The program helped me develop important skills such as research, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

My background is in finance and accounting, and I wanted to continue building my knowledge and experience in Canada. Because of my interest in finance, I completed my internship with the Town of Newmarket in the Finance Department. This experience was one of the most valuable parts of my education. During my internship, I learned how municipal finance works and gained practical experience in a Canadian workplace. I worked with professionals, learned about municipal systems, and developed a deeper understanding of local government operations.

After completing my Public Administration program, I decided to continue my education by enrolling in the Public Relations—Corporate Communications program at Seneca Polytechnic. I am currently studying public relations, where I am learning about media relations, digital communications, research methods, strategic communication planning, and content creation. This program has helped me strengthen my communication skills and understand how organizations connect with their audiences. I enjoy learning how effective communication can build trust, strengthen relationships, and support organizational goals.

Like many newcomers, I faced challenges while adapting to a new country. Learning English, adjusting to a different education system, and understanding Canadian workplace culture required patience and effort. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, but I continued working toward my goals. Each challenge helped me become stronger and more confident.

Looking back, I am proud of how far I have come. My journey has taught me the importance of persistence, hard work, and lifelong learning. From ESL classes to college studies, my internship experience, and my current public relations program, every step has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Today, I feel more confident about my future and excited about new opportunities in finance, communications, and the public sector.
